The course, developed by Brook and funded by Health Education England, will help health and social care professionals in identifying and responding to CSE.
Teaching young people about consent equips them to have more safe, ethical and enjoyable sexual experiences.
Our four-part course supports you to help young people to understand the law, the gender norms, stereotypes and cultural factors which may affect their ability to consent and supports them to communicate about consent with their partners.
Contraception refers to the methods that are used to prevent pregnancy. Some methods of contraception (condoms) can also be used to prevent some sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Learning about contraception leaves young people better equipped to have healthier, safer sexual lives. It also supports them to understand their range of choices and to make informed choices when the time comes.
Brook wants anyone who works with young people to feel confident in distinguishing between healthy and harmful sexual behaviour. We also want you to feel confident in responding in the right way.
This course, developed in partnership with EduCare: the UK’s leading provider of essential duty of care and safeguarding training, is an introduction to harmful sexual behaviours and is designed for people who work in any educational setting, including primary, secondary or college.

Produced in partnership with The Open University and Cardiff University, this introductory course will help you prepare to deliver Relationships and Sex Education by giving you a grounding in the core themes.
Understanding the basics such as types, frequency and attitudes towards sex will enable you to confidently deliver evidence and data supported teaching. Not only will we identify how to explore topics in further detail such as STIs, pleasure and relationships and consent, we’ll also outline how you can engage young people in developing your curriculum.
The two modules will help you to explore your understanding of topics for yourself whilst also providing you with resources you need to implement your learning.

Managing disclosures of sexual harassment, assault or abuse may be one of the most challenging aspects of being a teacher. And unfortunately, the chances of a young person being the victim of such an incident are higher than ever.
We know from Ofsted’s rapid review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges in 2021, that peer-on-peer sexual harassment and sexual violence has become so commonplace that young people see no point in reporting the incidents. But young people are not only vulnerable to their peers; perpetrators of abuse, assault, and harassment can be anyone they encounter.
If a young person chooses you as the person they trust with their disclosure, it's important to remember that how you support them can have a profound impact on their lives.
Before starting this course, you should review your organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures - keep a copy so you can easily access and refer to it at any time.
This course contains information about sexual violence and abuse, which some participants may find distressing.
Sex and relationships education (SRE) can often focus on the negatives of infection, risks of pregnancy, exploitation and violence. But this is not a positive, honest or realistic place to start from.
SRE can also have more of a focus on sex for reproduction but the young people you are educating will be well aware that most of us have sex because it is pleasurable!
The process of puberty can be daunting and confusing for young people. Teaching them about the physical and mental changes of adolescence will prepare them to know what to expect, whilst recognising the diversity of experiences every young person may go through.
Our four-part course supports you to help young people understand the changes to the body, emotions and mental health during puberty, the process of reproduction and periods, and explore this key time for the development of sexual feelings.
Good education on the subject of relationships leaves young people better equipped to negotiate issues such as conflict and consent and are less likely to be vulnerable to abusive situations. But research shows that professionals often lack the support, skills or tools to deliver this education.
To help you, Brook and The Open University have teamed up to provide e-learning based on a research project called ‘Enduring Love?’ The research team surveyed and interviewed over 5000 adult couples in long-term relationships and the findings were simply fascinating.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are bacterial or viral infections that can be passed on through unprotected sexual contact.
Understanding the different types of STIs, how to prevent them, the process for being tested and the treatments available, can help to prepare young people for healthier and safer sexual relationships in the future.
Brook’s nationally recognised Traffic Light Tool provides a highly visible, multi-agency response that helps professionals to identify, understand and respond appropriately to sexual behaviours in young people.
This CPD certified training and accompanying Tool equips professionals to shape consistent and informed decisions that neither stigmatises nor criminalises young people.
